  1. Social listening tools in general have a very difficult time in quantifying social media ROI. You get fancy charts, cool graphs, mentions of your brand (with sentiment), but no clear way to correlate all this social data with your key performance indicators! This is ok if the tool is free, but why pay for a tool that only fights half the battle?

Honestly, social media monitoring simply isn’t enough for the enterprise user. Any company of value will tell you that monitoring mentions, sentiment and all, is useless if you can’t apply it to your business. With that being said, social media business intelligence is the next level after monitoring. With SMBI, companies get the opportunity to digest millions of social data points in an actionable, applicable way that allows easy correlation and direct ties to key business metrics.

  2. Hi Sunalini,

Great list! However, you might also want to take a look at Webfluenz which provides a flexible and easy-to-use platform for listening, monitoring and engaging with the social media. You can check them out at http://webfluenz.com/

  3. They are some VERY drastic differences between these tools. Some are meant for engagement, with a small amount of listening. Others are robust listening tools.

When you are talking about social tools, it’s important to clarify there are free tools for limited listening, with limited functionality, and then there are paid tools with very strong listening, reporting and analytics.

There are social listening and monitoring tools, social CRM, social marketing and social engagement. And I’d add that some of the biggest and best social monitoring tools in the world are missing from this list.

  4. These tools are quite cool. Social media monitoring has became of great use to many business for maintaining their brand throughout the social media networks. Thanks.

  5. This is a great list; some old favorites, some I had never heard of. I wish I knew more about this before. Thanks.
