1. Planning Is Key
Prioritize your blog in your mind and make sure that you set aside some thinking time every day – even a few minutes every couple of hours – to come up with fresh ideas. There’s no point in sitting at your computer, ready to post a new blog, if you haven’t attempted to think of ideas in advance.
2. Write Everything Down
Keep a little notebook with you at all times and whenever you think of an interesting idea write it down immediately. Even if you have no concept yet of how you’ll formulate that idea into a post, it doesn’t matter, just jot down the idea itself and set it aside for the moment. Any interesting occurrences in your life can be written down too. They might not be blog concepts yet, but if something interesting happened, it worth noting it – perhaps you can make it into a blog post later.
3. Visualize Your Concepts
When you have a fresh idea, take a few moments to visualize the final blog post on the screen. Picture the words flowing and imagine how one concept will lead to another.
4. Outline Posts Before Writing Them
Before writing the final blog post, write down an outline. This is important so that your post will have a shape to it. Meandering, disjointed posts are not pleasant to read. It’s important to have a beginning, a middle and an end and a great deal of substance in between. Starting with an outline makes it so much easier to write the post i.e. to fill in the blanks. Another advantage to writing an outline is that you’ll be able to tell pretty quickly if your idea is going to lead to a quality blog post. It’s better to know early on that the idea isn’t working out, rather than spending a lot of time working with a dud! Also, sometimes, when you do an outline, it helps to enhance your ideas and can often lead to new ideas.
5. Read A Lot Of Books, Magazines And News Websites
Stay up-to-date with what’s happening in the world by reading a lot. Every time you come across an interesting news piece or story, add it to your notebook to file for later.
6. Create A Blogging Schedule
It’s important to have a weekly schedule for blogging, rather than posting in a haphazard manner. Once you have a definite schedule in place, it takes some of the stress out of blogging and sets your mind free to focus on good ideas and quality content, rather than worrying about when you’re going to actually write the blogs.
